The risk of earthquake damage has always been a major factor in Los Angeles. Los Angeles implemented the soft story retrofitting ordinance and sent many building owners orders to comply. However, banks and lending sources are now sometimes requiring buildings that are not in soft story condition to get a seismic retrofit upgrade for refinancing. These buildings are typically categorized as voluntary seismic retrofitting and thus Quake Strong must determine the most cost effective solution that will satisfy the lending source for refinancing and, of course, make the building stronger safer for tenants in the event of an earthquake.
